Where were you born & what was your childhood like?
I was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. My childhood was playful and inspiring in many ways. My dad was my idol growing up as he had a strong entrepreneurial spirit, and was creative with a great sense of humor. He was definitely ahead of his time -- recognized in the early 70s for being one of the first architects to use solar power in housing.
How long have you been in this business?
I introduced the Pleasure Pillow to friends and family for Christmas 2005.
Mid 2006 I decided to target a few major stores in the city. The interest was overwhelming, so I officially launched Mette
Vangso - San Francisco. The Pillows are now sold in high-end boutiques, spas and through partnerships such as Red Envelope.
What did you do prior to launching?
Prior to this business I worked for 12 years as an accounting consultant for the film and television industry.
I worked with studios such as Sony, Disney and San Francisco’s Wild Brain.
What designers do you draw inspiration from and why?
My main inspiration comes from my childhood friend and Danish muse, Anne. She is notorious for reading every
European fashion magazine and follows the trends as if her life depended on it. I have never followed the trends
nor do I look like the norm. I design and choose fabrics based on my instincts. Then, I confer with my muse and
hope for the best response.
What materials do you work with and why?
Mette Vangso products are all about the sensory perceptions of touch and vision. I work with the best quality fabrics and fabric designers. The pillows are filled with 100% certified organic grains and natural herbs for the most comforting results. All products are handmade in San Francisco by a fabulous team of creative people and lots of thought is put into every design to assure we are providing pure luxury for mind, body and soul.
